You can also add a CMS page with access from that role and add the HCC category viewer. Then in the settings of the module on page change to a specific category.

This coupled with Product Role Settings will give the distributor a customized view excluding the full catalog.

This is definitely a great additional option to keep in mind. I'd suggest that the other approach is used first, since not all merchants (end users) will know to look at CMS permissions. They'll be more aware of and comfortable with the role functionality in the store administration area. Typically, the people that manage the CMS portions of the site and the people who manage the store are not the same.
