What version of Hotcakes are you running this against? Also, are you certain that your key and URL are correct?

Just in case, here's the documentation article for this.

Hi Will,

Thanks for the response. This is running the 3.0 version of Hotcakes as was packaged on the HCC site. My key and url are correct as I can make other calls, such as total inventory count or find by InventoryID or bvin.
Is this code executing on the same context (server, dnn instance)?

If so, switch to the server side code instead. It's way faster and more flexible. Let me know if you need some code samples.
Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the reply. Per your response, I must be missing something. I thought that this code was the server side code. I used the example on Will's link under the C# sample code, not the Javascript.
Also, whenever possible if I need external access, I like to use WebAPI in dnn, wrap my own service and hook to hotcakes server-side code.

Just makes it a bit more extensible and keeps all of you external code in one place.
Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the extra reply. Can you point me to some documentation or example code for this process? I am not familliar with it at all but I am not adverse to reading/researching.

Sure, can you describe a bit more of the scenario?

Adrian,

Sure. This business has around 10,000 inventory items and all of the processes are done in a local program attached to the accounting software. They have been doing all work locally on the data. When an inventory item is added/edited or deleted locally, we want to call the HCC API to update the site accordingly. I started off just updating the web site SQL manually but that ended up out of sync when I missed updating a few related tables. So, now I am stepping back and trying to do this correctly as I should have done in the first place. I have decades of experience in desktop applications but very little when it comes to web applications. My JavaScript knowledge is extremely limited.
