We are running DNN Evoq Content Basic 8.02 and Hotcakes 1.10.1.

We are planning to move our site from a server running Windows 2008 R2 to a new one with Windows 2016.

We did a test run last month, and things went pretty smoothly. The servers have the same hostname and will be using the same DNS names, so I wasn't expecting any licensing issues.

Last night I did a real migration (which I had to roll back). This time, when we go to any Hotcakes product page, we get a message saying: "Hotcakes Commerce: No valid license found. Please use the Hotcakes Administration page to activate your license."

This didn't happen before, and I did everything the same as my test migration last month. I don't know how it determines licensing. Did something change? Is there any way to resolve this?

I have tried upgrading Hotcakes but that completely breaks everything.

    Hello:

Regardless of anything else, you should be able to upgrade to 01.10.04 without issue and really need to so you can address a known security issue.

The licensing engine takes in a variety of variables to ensure that it's valid, including domain name, server name, and certain IIS metadata. Any site move should always trigger the licensing engine to react the way you've noticed in the production move.

There isn't officially any license support at this time.

However, as the exclusive and official provider of Hotcakes Commerce support, we may be able to help you still. I'd normally ask you to submit a support request with us to explore the opportunities for support, but you have already done that. We'll continue this conversation there. Thanks!

I've done a server move or two since the turn-down of the licensing service and, to Will's point (and by his help!) we've been able to relicense.

The one extra note I'll put in is that, when you go to re-license, you'll be logging in to your Hotcakes account by username/password from within your site's Hotcakes Admin / License screen. If you type the username/password incorrectly, the returned message will be a "Cannot connect to Hotcakes Server" type of message.

It throws me every time! I think that it's not connecting instead of retrying my typing ; )

So I thought I'd mention it in case it helps someone else too.

Another point of advice would be, after relicensing, to place an order and confirm that the Authorize.Net (etc) translation responses are correct. That will help you double-check/confirm that orders are going through and that the store isn't still in Test/Demo mode because of the unlicensing.
