Can Hotcake be used for membership payment?

Practically I need to have few security roles which are granted to visitors who pay for different subscriptions. In this case, I will not have physical products but rather few subscriptions to choose from.

Can this be done please? If yes, can you point me on some documentation about it (if exist).
