You might want to double check a few things.

Backup before you start

Make sure you have ASP.NET framework 4.5 installed.

Verify you have the updated MVC dll in your /bin

Make sure your root web.config contains updated references to System.Web.Mvc 4.0

Make sure website\Portals\_default\HotcakesViews\_default\web.config also has updated references to System.Web.Mvc 4.0 (Note: There are several on this one)
Perform the same to your custom views if your arent using the _default.
You can compare to the current files here:
    https://github.com/Hotcak.../_default/Web.config
    https://github.com/Hotcak...n/System.Web.Mvc.dll

    Hope this helps!
