Can we have checkboxes for users to filter categories

Hi community, I would like to know if it's possible to customise the fitering so that instead of having categories, we can have checkboxes and users can select multiple checkboxes as a way of drilling down to the their selected products. Currently with the category viewer module, users can only select a single category to see the product list that belongs to it and we're exploing the possibility of making this more flexible for a user searching a wide array of products. (I didn't know the exact forum to ask this question so went with the safe "Ask Anything" section) Many thanks, Waldo
