The reason you're seeing these other places are not because they are or are not the 48 states. It's because these additional places are listed as regions (by default) for United Stated.

If you wish for these to no longer appear, you only need to delete them from the United States in the Countries administrative view. This link below will walk you thorugh how to use that view.

Hi Will,

When I go to Settings > Countries > Edit United States, it will not allow me to delete the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Armed Forces bases. When I click on the delete button next to the name, it just refreshes the page.
